Holiday Rental Cleaning Checklist: Room by Room, With Sign-Off

By MAXORI Studio · Updated 18 October 2026 · 6 min read

A holiday rental is cleaned well when every changeover follows the same routine, whoever does it. This guide gives a room-by-room checklist, a deep-clean rhythm and a short sign-off, so tasks are not left to memory or scattered messages. Adapt the lists to your property and follow the instructions on your cleaning products. It is a working aid, not legal, health or safety advice.

Start with a turnover master list

One page covers the order of work for every changeover: collect waste and laundry, strip beds, clean from top to bottom, make beds, restock, check for damage and lost items, then lock up. Keep it short enough to be used between a morning checkout and an afternoon arrival.

Room-by-room checklists

Split the work by area so a cleaner can tick as they go.

AreaTypical items to list
KitchenFridge emptied, hob and oven wiped, dishes and cupboards checked, bins emptied
BathroomShower and toilet cleaned, towels replaced, floor and mirror done, toiletries restocked
BedroomLinen changed, under-bed and surfaces checked, wardrobe looked at
Living roomSurfaces, cushions, remotes, floor, windows if needed
Terrace and poolFurniture wiped, floor swept, pool area tidy (as applicable)
Entrance and hallFloor, shoe area, keys and door checked
Laundry areaMachine emptied, cloths and mops cleaned, supplies counted

Plan deep cleans and counts

Some jobs do not belong to every turnover. Schedule a monthly deep clean (behind furniture, oven, fridge, windows) and a seasonal one (mattresses, curtains, outdoor areas). Count linen and supplies against a minimum level you set for each item, so you see a shortage before the next guest arrives.

A simple cleaner sign-off

Ask for a short close-out at the end of each visit.

  1. Tick or mark each task: done, problem or not applicable.
  2. Note any damage, stains or maintenance problem with the room.
  3. List items left behind by guests.
  4. Confirm keys are returned or locked away.
  5. Add date, name and signature, and keep the page.

Keep it realistic

Lists should reflect your actual property, not an ideal one. Agree with your cleaner what is included and how long a changeover takes. This guide is general and not legal, health or safety advice; check your local rules and your agreement with your cleaner.

Questions

What should a holiday rental cleaning checklist include?

A turnover master list, a checklist for each room, a deep-clean schedule, linen and supply counts, and a sign-off for problems and keys.

How often should I do a deep clean?

It depends on your bookings and property. Many hosts plan a monthly deep clean and a bigger seasonal one; set the rhythm that fits you.

Should my cleaner sign the checklist?

A signature or initials make it clear who did what and when. Agree on this with your cleaner first.

Can one checklist fit all properties?

Use a common base and add or remove tasks for each property, for example a pool or terrace.

Ready-made tools for this

The Cleaning & Housekeeping Checklists pack has a 14-page printable PDF (turnover master list, seven room checklists, deep-clean grids, linen and restock sheets, sign-off) and an Excel workbook with drop-down tick cells, in English, Italian, Spanish, French and German. It needs a printer and Microsoft Excel.
